T’ai Chi Increases Naturally Occurring Stem Cells

Stem cell treatments of various kinds are now widely available at clinics. Using stem cells as treatments are not FDA approved due to various aspects regarding their clinical safety. American patients are often recruited on the Internet to travel around the US or to Mexico and other countries. Researchers in Taiwan may have found a simpler and much less expensive alternative. Research has shown that T’ai Chi increases the body’s natural ability to regenerate stems cells lending more support for the benefits of T’ai Chi in assuring a healthy longevity.

How much do these stem cell treatments cost?

Doctors charge approximately $10,000 per treatment and many patients get more than one. These treatments are not FDA approved due to various aspects regarding the clinical safety (e.g., risk of complications after surgery, compatibility of donor stem cells) and the affordability of this treatment for the general public. Moreover, there is still no sufficient amount of clinical data on the effectiveness of stem cell therapy when compared with pharmacological treatments.
Some clinics have reduced prices to the $7,000-$8,000 range. Interestingly, costs for treatments outside of the US are usually far higher than in the US, charging anywhere from $20,000 all the way up to $100,000. These clinics still generally have Americans as clientele. Whether inside or outside the US, insurance does not cover the costs of these potentially dangerous, unproven treatments.Interestingly the actual cost of stem cell treatments is around $1,000-$2,000 per treatment.

T’ai Chi Naturally Increases Stem Cell Production

Researchers in Taiwan may have discovered at least one cellular mechanism by which T’ai Chi has achieved it’s reputation for healthy longevity.
A study comparing speed walking, T’ai Chi and sedentary controls found that T’ai Chi practice increases the number of stem cells by 3 to 5 times in a study just published in the international medical journal Cell Transplantation.
Stem cells can be guided into becoming specific cells that can be used to regenerate and repair diseased or damaged tissues in people and are being extensively studied in Parkinson’s, Alzheimers and many other debilitating diseases of aging.
T’ai Chi practitioners enjoyed improved heart function, reinvigorated neural cells in the brain, balanced excitement and inhibition controls, and helped with mental trauma and nerve exhaustion.
