Aging baby boomers and millennials embrace alternative medicine creating a $32 billion business. According to a recent study funded by the National Institute on Aging, 65 percent (a higher percentage than any other group) of older adults said they used some form of alternative medicine they considered either curative or preventive. Baby boomers reported significantly higher rates of alternative medicine use for both chronic diseases and pain. While alternative medicine is used by people of all backgrounds, use is greatest among baby boomers, women and those with higher levels of education and income. Whether we like it or not, we human beings are social animals, very few people thrive as hermits. For most of us, being around other people and staying connected to other people is an important source of our connection to reality. In order to do well in life and enjoy a good, high quality of life, you have to be willing to put up with people. People can be a pain in the rear end, but loneliness is worse.

Meditation Improves Gene Expression
A Systematic Review of Gene Expression Changes Induced by Meditation in Tai Chi and Related Practices
The ancient Taoist masters stated that “in perfect harmony of mind and body, the golden elixir is found.” In Traditional Chinese Medicine the way to influence “prior to heaven Jing (genetic expression) is by profound meditation. Once again modern science is confirming their insight. There is considerable evidence for the effectiveness of Tai Chi, Qigong and other mind–body interventions (MBIs) in improving mental and physical health. To understand some of the underlying genetic changes involved with the mental and physical benefits of of meditation a systematic review study looked at changes in gene expression that occur after meditation and to explore how these molecular changes are related to health.
